This album was a big seller when I was a Saturday boy in the record department at WHSmith in Wood Green in 1981:

I’m not a particular fan of the group myself, but everyone loves them these days and they are certainly musical icons. Nicola tells an amusing tale of being laughed out of town upon arrival from Trinidad at boarding school in Kent in 1978 when she said she was an Abba fan, but the group appear to have had the last laugh – and they are clearly still huge in the Caribbean judging by the tribute concert staged in honour of the album at Pollards Mill yesterday.

In chronological order, starting at 8am, we welcomed:

  1. Roofer Robert
  2. Gardeners Jason and Chris
  3. Pool guys Sam and Miguel
  4. Solar panel guy Kenrick
  5. Skip guy – name unknown
  6. Event planner David with a potential wedding group
  7. And finally…cottage project manager Kev and his family for a much needed communal dip in the pool with a stiff rum.

“🎶 Mamma Mia! 🎶”

I did my best to reverse the visiting trend by selfishly taking a couple of hours out at lunchtime to watch the exciting England v DR Congo World Cup match at the Crane resort down the road (as we have no broadband on this short trip and, as a bonus, my phone still picks up the WiFi there from our stay there in 2022!) “🎶 Ring, Ring 🎶”… it’s Nicola. What’s the score?!

When I left, life and limb was being risked tackling the small trees growing out of the mill wall:

“🎶 S.O.S. 🎶”? Fortunately no casualties on my return 👍

All these visitors had to be listened to, consulted with, talked into things, talked out of things, negotiated with, worked with and last but not least PAID!

“🎶 Money, money, money…🎶”

Unsurprisingly we were shattered by the end of the day. “🎶 Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight…🎶”?! You must be bloody joking! 💤 😆

We feel a bit like visitors to Pollards Mill ourselves, as our short trip ends when we fly to Blighty tonight. Lots of good things are in the pipeline here and we look forward to sharing them with you in due course.

”🎶 Thank you for the music 🎶”
