The sea container

15th October 2024

During the Scottish or was it Yorkshire shortbread key tin voyage of discovery, we came across this …..

So another exploration of the property ensues…… have any of you ever opened a sea container? …. Of course it’s obvious they are designed to keep out the elements …. particularly splashing waves I assume … obviously. Let me tell you when a sea container has not been opened in a while it’s not keen to be opened. We had a little idea what might be in it from the inventory but as we have found, things have not necessarily been described accurately. We have a strong motivation to check the contents beeeecause …..

We have been approached to host a wedding next year …. OMG… exciting

Our best friend WD40 comes into its own and the key turns in the padlock. Then one heavy stiff lever turns anti-clockwise and the other clockwise, there is a clunk and we both leap back expecting the worst to leap out … rats, centipedes who knows …

Whoo hoo it’s clean and dry …. And inside are …a huge events table, 130 hard chairs, 41 soft seat chairs, 75 wine glasses, a random filthy but intact sun lounger (completely useless at the moment … oh to lie on a sun lounger), there was the gubbins of a patio umbrella missing the actual brolly, the pin and one spoke!!!!!! But also a number of squares of wood that my artist’s eye was immediately drawn to… must find time to get the brushes out ……. more of that later.

So Aunty Dee is coming to meet us and check out the grounds on Thursday. We are going to be on our best behaviour, do I wear a bridesmaid dress to get her in the mood? Anyway only joking, if they would like to hold the wedding here, we are going to say ………“I do”
