October 3rd 2024

We are on day 3. There is so much to report it’s going take a few blogs to catch you up. Like this project we will take it one day/blog at a time. We have to …. it’s huge.

TBH it’s been all a bit overwhelming.

I need to rewind to key day/D-Day October 1st. Even before that there was a hiccough. As part of line marking and our venture into the deep bush to identify the well, it was pointed out to us that as part of the contract the vendor should make a reasonable effort to “clear de bush”. Dis bush has not been cleared for 20yrs.

We were not able to walk on our land to the well and had to pop in and out of adjoining cane fields. Think Thornbirds, or Flame Trees of Thika type of thing. There are no snakes in Barbados, they say the mongoose wiped them out…but it felt dodgy, wild … ya feel me.

So the start of key day we have a conversation with the lawyers … what do we do? Take it on the chin? Or delay closure…. Disappointment welling but we stay strong and hold our nerve. She caves and agrees to get it cleared. Gentlemen’s agreement. Ok. We are back on.

We agree to be at the attorney’s office for 2pm so make a detour to the BIM SIM shop … which takes a hell of a lot longer than we planned …. Still dialling up patience …. all is well.

The whole deal is done, closed, completed and in our sweaty palms a set of keys.

We arrive … we encounter the electric gate is locked, none of our keys for it work. Richard squeezes his skinny arse through the gap. We ring the agent and the attorney… sorted we are in ……. But …… the house is hot as hell, really dirty and we are attacked by a squadron of mosquitoes….. it’s going to be ok, it’s going to be ok …..

We are following your trials & tribulations but none the less resultant positive progress- welcome to Island living !!
Later on – when you are more firmly dug/settled in we will recommend you acquiring and reading the novel – “Don’t stop the carnival” – didn’t think it was a good idea or appropriate to recommend this read too early in your adventure!! Love from us – we are right there with you !!
