Yes indeedy, I hope you are all suitably impressed, as you can see from above, we are unpacked. And the photos don’t show the 20+ flat packed boxes we have stored in the shed ready to act as weed suppressant in the grounds. Even better the agents are collecting the packing material tomorrow so in less than a week all boxes have been destuffed. By tomorrow the evidence of long haul travel will be a distant memory for all our precious stuff. A lot of things have found homes but maybe not forever homes. It’s still a bit of a jigsaw, and very emotional seeing some of this well travelled furniture fit into spaces like they were built for it. Check out this mahogany dresser my parents had in Kent. I always assumed it had come from the West Indies but evidence has emerged (thanks Tim) of it in my Grandparents house in Discovery bay Jamaica in the 70’s and very likely had come there from Barbados. As I said well travelled furniture… no doubt it’s seen some sights, witnessed some rum fuelled nights and could tell some tales. I would love to hear them.

We have given a little TLC to my father’s collection of Barbados maps and they look very much at home on the wall above the dresser. We were delighted to spot on the two older maps from 1728 and 1756, a certain Pollards mentioned. 👏👏👏👏

I have thought a lot of my parents as we unpack much of their stuff. It’s lovely having a part of them around us and in less than a week it has made Pollards feel more and more like home. We have unpacked furniture, paintings, family pictures and even wedding presents from friends. A star appearance has been the super comfortable armchairs that my parents spent many hours in. We are eternally grateful to my aunt Agneta who scraped off the ingrained ginger nuts from the side of my father’s chair and transformed the leather during her visit in the spring. We have also begun to find space for some of the furniture from the Welsh house we sold last year. That too is well travelled.

Some spaces are still a little chaotic but things are taking shape.

Back on 30th September (Repair shop) I mentioned that the next project for cane juice man was to make some cushions for the inherited outdoor furniture. With great excitement the call came in to say all my efforts in the foam shop had come to fruition and the cushions were ready for collection … with bated breath, yes they are gorgeous but the ultimate test … were they comfy?

OMG transformation… comfort has arrived to the patio. Hurrah.
In and amongst all this chaos we celebrated our anniversary. The last year has certainly been challenging, we are still here, still together, working it out together, celebrating together. There is a great deal of comfort in that … actually it’s priceless.
