Breakfast in the car

16th October 2024

Mosquito Apocalypse arrived today as our pest expert Joel and his team did their thing. “I love the smell of napalm in the morning…”. We are nature lovers so it was with a heavy heart that we bowed to the inevitable and also agreed to deal with the beehive in the tree just outside the kitchen window. Regular readers of this column will know that both Brian and I suffered what the Jamaicans call a ‘bitch lick’ last week and they were becoming a real danger. Sadly the hive couldn’t be moved as it was up inside the tree trunk, so it was the end for the bees too 😔. Needless to say the bees weren’t best pleased with the plan so we were advised to take cover in the car with the air conditioning running whilst summary justice was administered. This coincided with our breakfast time, so…

In Carter’s hardware store later we stumbled upon a Weber charcoal barbecue which spoke to my heart and had to become part of our Pollards family. Continuing the Jamaican theme, we threw on some ‘Bad Dawg’ jerk sausages and added the essential chicken marinated in natural Bajan seasoning, plus of course one of Nicola’s scrumptious fresh local salads. With an ice cold Banks in hand, cooking up a storm under the palm trees and the stars was close to perfection. A very special al fresco dinner – and no A/C required! 🇯🇲 🇧🇧
