They are back! It’s this time of year, nights getting colder and they think they are better off in our eaves. How they get in is a mystery? Their presence is made known by a rustle and scratching in the eaves and little black gifts in and among the suitcases. We know how to deal with them but we discover a bigger problem; we have a wasps’ nest. They have been very busy making a huge nest in the eaves, damn it we are busy too, so much to do, not least tomorrow is another Wendy and Marty day, we have to make the final payment.
We get the expert man in to do the wasps’ nest – puff puff. Max 10 minutes work – HOW MUCH? “it is guaranteed” he says and to be fair the big white suit and long pole must have been a fair capital investment.
This morning I intend to start packing – into the spare room, I sniff and the stench hits me. OMG something is dead in here. It must be in the eaves – PHOOweee.
Maybe the wasps did us a favour. Poor mouse … death by wasp sting I’m sure that’s not nice. Maybe the wasp man was not bad value after all and we got a BOGOF – let’s see if we have any more presents left tonight.
On a separate note, I’ve added the hammock to the essentials to pack – I wonder if it can be pancaked.

Let the record show that I am the in-house hero who organised and managed the wasp man and has the delightful job of disposing of the mouse corpses. Two in two nights so far…TMI! Wonder what I’ll be battling in Barbados? The island has no snakes and I haven’t yet seen any rodents there but it’s only a matter of time. I think I’ll delegate the task to the local mongooses (or is it mongeese?).
