31st July 2025
The last three days have been a whirlwind of activity as we count down to our return to Barbados in less than three weeks’ time. We have had to shift things between properties as we prepare to load a shipping container next week. More of that in the next blog post. Exciting stuff but a lot of hard graft dismantling and humping furniture and loading, unloading, reloading and unloading our hired van, plus the joy of driving up and down the motorway.

Heading east…then back west…

The effort was amply rewarded by the laughs we had along the way. This blog could have had at least three titles:
White Van Man – self-explanatory, but I detest tailgating and road rage so couldn’t live up to the stereotype.
Yorkie Man – a serious contender, evoking youthful memories of the classic 70s/80s adverts featuring macho truckers in plaid shirts taking mansize bites out of the chunky chocolate bar kept in their breast pocket. Here’s the 2025 version:

The final choice (at top) is another walk down memory lane, being a lyric snippet from the daft song on the Not the Nine O’Clock News album ‘Hedgehog Sandwich’ which affectionately lampooned truckers – CB radios, Yorkie bars and all. Naturally we had to belt out a couple of hearty a cappella versions en route!
I do realise that any non British readers and probably all readers under the age of 60 will be totally baffled by the last couple of paragraphs but we had a giggle and got the job done 👍. Now, pass the paracetamol…
