I’m sure since “breakfast in the car” you have been curious as to the contents of our breakfast bowls 🤣 Or maybe not …. But here goes for those who are interested. You have already heard about the Bajan cherry. I picked a load yesterday to deliver to my Aunt who plans to compote them to serve over ice cream. The tree was looking a little bare when I went to harvest some for the breakfast bowl this morning so maybe the season is coming to an end or more likely the monkeys got there first.
Last week my eagle eyes spotted a small white table by the side of the road. It was laden with large green spiky fruit … unmistakable….. PULL OVER I screeched … (ok ok ok artistic licence but it makes better reading). She was packing up. “I spy soursop I said” her reply “you not spying it for long, I packing up, so mek your mind up”. No problem purchase made. Soursop is in my breakfast bowl this morning.
A creamy white flesh which looks very unpromisingly like slop with a unique tangy flavour. It’s delicious but in a marmite way … some people love it …etc etc. it’s got a great reputation for making amazing ice cream. It is high in fibre and vitamin c, has a low glycaemic index and is full of antioxidants. The seeds are toxic so you have to remove them … but I’m going to plant a couple .. you never know.

This morning I also have pawpaw or papaya as some call it, some Greek yoghurt and nuts and mixed seeds. Pineapple and banana sometimes feature … mix and match depending on what you can get. You can’t always get yoghurt (well the plain stuff that’s not full of sugar and other crap) either, so I have taken soundings from another wise Aunt (Agneta … that’s you 😘) a veteran of living in Jamaica and successfully made it from the last two tablespoons of the shop bought stuff, some whole milk and a thermos … result.
So fully nourished, bowl licked clean we are off on another adventure. After yesterday’s splurge and 5 hours standing at another of Andy’s auctions we are off to pick up the spoils. More of that later. Let’s just say it was entertaining, educational and exhausting.
