30th October 2025
As regular readers will be tired of hearing, we became the proud owners/temporary custodians of this historic property on 1 October last year.
On 2 October we visited Flow, the internet and telephone provider, to arrange a new broadband contract and cancel the landline – both effective from 4 October. We had two days remaining on the previous owner’s contract.
On 3 October, the landline phone rang. We looked at each other. Who’s this? Gingerly I raised the receiver to my ear. The caller was a young British woman of Barbadian heritage calling from London. A complete stranger. Were we still doing weddings? Err…well, the previous owner did, and we’d like to eventually, but we only moved in two days ago – how did you know about us? Ah – the previous owner’s website which features the landline number. Blimey, another day and the call would have failed. Well, we’re in complete chaos here but sure, let’s have a chat…
Fast forward just over a year, and this is the result:

None of this would have been possible without a huge amount of hard labour from these two:

Ha ha! Although that’s true, the real thanks and appreciation must go to our bride and her family. They took a chance on us as a completely unknown quantity, no track record whatsoever. Fantastic. Hopefully they feel their faith has been rewarded – we certainly think it was a very special event and look forward to many more. Of course, the real star is the venue. The place has a magic which cast its spell on us and our wedding party alike. Thank you, Pollards Mill ❤️
