Sunday 31st August
We have declared today a working day, because the gardener is coming and we want to work with him. He has been grafting in our absence, but this will be the first time we will work together. Yesterday we took the road less travelled up the east coast. We swam, snorkelled, swam, walked the beach, sat, swam, read our books, sat toes in the sand, drank beer and ate fish. Paradise. Today it’s back to work.
So I started the day with some yoga and then the daily sweep. There were slim pickings from the bedroom and the flick over the balcony had happened before I thought …actually you may like a visual report. Too bad. The contents of the dustpan from the living room and kitchen were a cracking cornucopia of biodiversity unfortunately all dead. Millipedes of all sizes, a dead lizard, a dead frog, several moths, ants, a piece of glass (which proceeded to nick my toe) and a kerbigrip (not mine). However I do have a new species as yet unidentified to report.

It has a millipede set up for legs, but the gait is much more staccato, it lacks the smooth wave of motion. It too lacks gears … one speed only. Is it a new brand of millipede? I shall be doing some research and looking out for the rest of its family. To all you animal lovers out there, it may be a threatened species being out run by the common millipede… watch this space.
